Nurul Islam moved to CMH, son dies in fire

Dhaka, Dec 3 (bdnews24.com) – Ganotontree Party president Nurul Islam suffered critical burns injuries and son Tamohar Islam, 36, died after a fire broke out early Wednesday at his Lalmatia home, police said.

Islam has been moved to the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka Cantonment. His party has called for suspension of vote in the constituency and an investigation into the incident.

Polls could be the fairest in the world: McCain

Dhaka, Dec 3 (bdnews24.com) — US Senator John McCain has said Bangladesh's next parliamentary polls could possibly be "the fairest" in the world.

"It seems to me that with the incredible registering of 80 million people, this has the possibility of being the fairest election, perhaps in the entire world," McCain told reporters at a press conference at ZIA before leaving Dhaka at 9:00am.

Islamic extremists being coaxed toward YouTube

WASHINGTON, Dec 3 (bdnews24.com/Reuters) - Islamic extremists are being instructed on how to use the popular video-sharing site YouTube as a way to disseminate propaganda videos, a US-based terrorism monitor said on Tuesday.

Militants are being encouraged to use the online site through postings on other Islamic forums on the Internet, according to the SITE Intelligence Group.

Govt orders re-tenders for Bibiana, Sirajganj plants

Dhaka, Dec 2 (bdnews24.com) – The Power Division has ordered re-tenders for two proposed 450 MW power plants at Bibiana and Sirajganj, a top official said on Tuesday.

Power Division secretary M Fouzul Kabir Khan told bdnews24.com that the government had instructed the department concerned to serve re-tender notice for the two power plants.

Real Madrid agree to sign Huntelaar from Ajax

MADRID, Dec 3 (bdnews24.com/Reuters) - Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Netherlands striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar from Ajax Amsterdam, the Spanish champions said on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old, who will sign a contract until 2013, will not be available for Real until January when he will be available to replace compatriot Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Researchers link C-section babies to asthma risk

LONDON, Dec 2 (bdnews24.com/Reuters) - Babies born by Caesarean section are more likely to develop asthma than children delivered naturally, Swiss researchers said on Tuesday.

There has been conflicting evidence on the link between asthma and C-sections but the researchers said the number of children involved in their study and a long monitoring period strengthened their results.
