GP Finally Gets IPO Go-Ahead

Grameenphone, the country's leading mobile phone operator, finally got the regulatory nod to enter the share market Thursday, after twice submitting proposals to the SEC, in what will be Bangladesh's biggest ever public offer.

The company received formal consent from the Securities and Exchange Commission Thursday on its IPO application submitted last December, SEC executive director Farhad Ahmed told reporters after a meeting on Thursday.

Govt Will Act If Norms Were Breached: FM

Foreign minister Dipu Moni said Wednesday that the Indian high commissioner may have breached diplomatic norms when he spoke about the controversial Tipaimukh dam issue and Bangladesh's internal affairs last month.

She also rejected high commissioner Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty's view and said Dhaka could resolve the contention over construction of the Tipaimukh dam through dialogue with New Delhi in line with international laws on common rivers and Bangladesh-India relations.

General Motors To Seek Approval To Sell Itself

General Motors Corp is heading to bankruptcy court on Tuesday to seek approval to sell its assets to a "New GM" in a plan to reinvigorate the automaker under US government ownership.

GM is seeking approval for the sale from US bankruptcy Judge Robert Gerber just 30 days after filing for Chapter 11.

FDA Confirms E. Coli Found In Nestle Cookie Dough

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday confirmed that it has found E. coli O157:H7 bacteria in a sample of Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough. The contaminated sample was collected at Nestle's facility in Danville, Va. on Thursday, the FDA said in a statement.

Prince Charles Agrees To Attend D-Day Anniversary

Britain's Prince Charles will attend a ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings after French officials failed to invite Queen Elizabeth, causing a brief diplomatic spat.

A spokeswoman for Charles confirmed he would attend the June 6 commemoration as a guest of President Nicolas Sarkozy. US President Barack Obama will also attend the anniversary.
